There will be five Homeroom Lessons for three hours each for a total of 15 hours. The main purpose of the Homeroom Lessons is to focus on the development of speeches and that you will use material from a book called The Art of Public Speaking to do this and that each student in your homeroom will deliver a prepared ~5 minute speech during the last Homeroom Lesson, which is also the last morning of the program.
Now how do you prepare for these Homeroom Lessons? I will attach to this message several files that you may pick and choose from to present the content from The Art of Public Speaking (APS). In addition, once we get to Wuhan there will be copies of the APS books and the accompanying CDs to look at.
There is lots of redundancy in the materials below since they represent the approaches of two different teachers. You can pick and choose or decide on yet a different approach that matches your style. It's important that we all cover the material and provide students with the opportunity to learn and practice how to create and deliver a speech. It's important that we all use APS as a standard way to approach it but there is much freedom on how you want to do this with your homeroom students.
